Aim The aim of this course is to qualify participants to conduct vertical rescue while working or organising work at heights.
Description Vertical rescue requires employees to correctly identify and use suitable recovery equipment and procedures to provide emergency response options in the case of an accident. Participants will be required to operate independently and as part of a team to complete the successful recovery of casualties from heights.

Unit/s of Competence
(PUATEA001A) Work in a Team – This unit covers competency in working with
others and making a positive contribution to the effectiveness and efficiency of a
team in a work environment when predominately under direct supervision.

(PUAEME001A) Provide Emergency Care – This unit covers the provision of
emergency care pending the arrival of appropriately qualified personnel.
(PUASAR001A) Participate in a rescue operation – This unit covers participation
in rescue operations as a member of a rescue team.

(PUATEA002) Work Autonomously – This unit covers working as a member of a
team or an individual for periods of time without direct supervision and for mentoring and coaching either in an operational or non-operational environment.

(PUASAR004A) Undertake Vertical Rescue – This unit covers the competency to
undertake vertical rescue operations as a member of a rescue team.
 Accreditation Participants who successfully complete the course will receive a Risk Response &
Rescue Certificate as well as a Nationally Accredited Statement of Attainment.

Pre-Requisites
Participants should possess a recognised first aid certificate. Participants should
ensure they do not suffer from vertigo (dizziness at heights) or acrophobia (fear of
heights).
 Assessment Participants must be able to implement height safety procedures, identify hazards
and risks and detail safe work requirements. They must also be able to operate
whilst wearing safety equipment and utilising recovery equipment and explain
emergency response and rescue procedures. Both written and practical assessment will be conducted.
