| Aim | The aim of this course is to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills to perform commercial rope access to the standard of an ARAA Level 1 rope technician |
| Description | This Industrial Rope Access course is designed for persons working at heights to do so using commercial rope access techniques. The course provides participants with OH&S and legislative requirements and procedures to ensure the health and safety of any persons required to work at heights. The course also provides emergency response training, rope access training and use and care of equipment. |
| Duration | Total of 32 hours broken up into 26 hours of training, practical & theory with a 6 hour assessment. |
| Unit/s of Competence | *Inspect & comment on rope access rigging, anchors, knots & equipment. *Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements for working on roofs. *Demonstrate an understanding of the ARAA Industry Code. *Demonstrate an understanding of Australia/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4488.2:1997 part 1: Specifications and part 2: Selection use and maintenance. *Ability to demonstrate tying F08, alpine butterfly & double fisherman’s knot. *Identify & comment on potential hazards encountered when rope access is used on worksite. *Demonstrate an understanding of a safe work method statement (SWMS). *Demonstrate an understanding of the requirements for public protection when working at height. |
| Accreditation | Participants who successfully complete the course will be issued with an ARAA ‘credit card’ type certification, Level One. |
| Course Content | All operators will be taught competency to complete the following safely, maintaining a minimum of two points of contact at all times: *Ascend using ascenders and back up device. *Descend using descender and back up device. *Conduct retrieval of unconscious or injured workmate from descender. *Ascend past knot in working rope. *Ascend past knot on safety rope. *Descend past knot on working rope. *Descend past knot on safety rope. *Ascend through intermediate anchors. *Descend through intermediate anchors. |
| Pre-Requisites | Completed registration & medical form. |
| Assessment | *Assessment is conducted by an Independent ARRA assessor that has not provided any of the training on the course and therefore is independent of the training modules. *Practical & theory modules will be conducted by the participant to safely complete the course competencies. |
